Description

Mnemosyne; Memory is a trace of the past that remains both in the common and the individual consciousness.

If I think of a memory in my childhood, or a memory of something yesterday, the concept of a childhood memory taking place in the past is really a construction of my mind construing an idea of past time. Memories, past and present can pop up in my mind’s eye whenever I wish to retrieve them. I seem to adopt an artificial system of time to order experiences chronologically. The expression “it was so long ago, but it seems like yesterday” illustrates this process of relative time. Past, and present exist simultaneously mentally but not physically; a similar dichotomy to light being a wave and a particle simultaneously.

If I portray different events on a canvas, for example a cup, stationary or falling, simultaneously, it would be like memories being remembered simultaneously. Remembering is like miming in your mind but leaving gaps in the action.
